[Class 44] A code lock comprises shackle arms 15, 16 connected by links 17 to the cross-bar of a sliding bolt 18 held in the locking position by a pin 22 carried by a spring 21 on the back of the bolt passing through a hole in the bolt into a hollow spindle 24 carried by a fixed plate 19 on which the bolt slides. Mounted on the spindle 24 are two rotatable discs 25, 27, and two non-rotatable discs 26, 28. The disc 28 has a lug 29 and a recess 30, the disc 27 has a bent arm 32, 33 and a hole 34, and the disc 29 has a hole 39 adapted to register with 34, and a recess 36 engaged by a spring pawl 38 carried by the bolt 18. A rotatable handle 40 has a pointer co-operating with a series of numbers on the face of the lock, and has a spindle 41 carrying a disc 42 provided with two pins 44, 45, of which the pin 45 is adapted to enter the registering holes 34, 39 when the handle 40 is pushed in axially, while the pin 45 is adapted to travel round the edge of the disc 27 when the handle 40 is rotated, until it engages the arm 32, after which further rotation causes the bent part 33 of the arm to engage the lug 29 on the disc 25. When the three parts 29, 33, 44 have been thus brought together, the handle is rotated to successive angular positions determined by the code, so that the pin 45 is aligned with the holes 34, 39, and the pin 44 with the recess 30 in disc 25, and a hole 49 in the fixed plate 19. The handle is then pushed in, causing an extension 43 of the spindle 41 to enter the hollow spindle 24 and eject the pin 22. The released bolt 18 is then moved up by springs 50 to unlock the shacklearms 15, 16. To reset the lock, the handle is rotated anti-clockwise so that pin 44 engages a cam surface on the pawl 38 and draws the bolt 18 down until the spring pin 22 passes through it into the spindle 24.
