Abstract

541,091. Drying cellulosic tubes. HEAVEN, H. S. May 9, 1940, No. 8400. [Class 34 (i)] A wet flexible tube 19 produced from a cellulosic solution is partially dried in an inflated or distended condition while passing through a chamber 11 through which warm air is forced by a fan 12, and is further dried in a flattened form while passing over heated rollers 22 in a chamber 21 through which warm air is forced by a fan 28. In a modification, the rollers 22 are unheated and the flattened tube is heated by radiation from a hot pipe in the chamber 21. Before entering the drying chamber 11 in an inflated form, the tube may be subjected to a preliminary drying in a flattened form as described in Specification 541,090.
