Abstract
540,304. Aerating liquids. CROWN CORK & SEAL CO., Inc. April 10, 1940, No. 6511. Convention date, May 2, 1939. [Class 14 (i)] Aerating apparatus comprises a chamber in which gas is maintained at a predetermined pressure and into which liquid is admitted to fall in a labyrinthine film to collect at the bottom of the chamber, the level of the collected liquid being controllable to vary the length of the film path, thereby varying the amount of gas absorbed. The gas is supplied to the chamber by means not shown, a tube 23 leading to a pressure gauge 28 and a branch 25 to a valve 26 to allow escape of air. The liquid is fed by a motordriven pump 16 through a pipe 14 to the top of the jacketed chamber 10. The water falls into a casing 21 whence it flows over a plate 19 into a dished plate 20 and thence over similar pairs to the bottom of the chamber. When it is not desired to vary the absorption the supply of liquid may be controlled by a float controlling the motor switch. For varying the absorption a similar float is fitted to a chamber 37 connected by a pipe 39 to the top of the chamber 10, and a pipe 38 to the bottom, the chamber 37 being adjustably carried on a vertical post 42. Means are provided for cutting out either control.
