Testing efficiency of hollow-ware.-Hermetically sealed containers are tested by supplying to and maintaining' in the container air under pressure, the container being immersed in liquid after or simultaneously with the air admission operation. In the form described, the container 16, e.g. for cake, to be tested is secured between resilient rubber rings 8, 10 on a clamp 6, the ring 8 being secured to an adjustable screw 7 which presses the container 16 down upon a perforating needle nozzle 11 supported on a bracket 9 which carries ring 10. The clamp 6 is vertically adjustable on a vertical member 3 supported by a stay 4 in a tank 2 containing water. The clamp 6 carrying the container 16 is lowered into the water and air under pressure is supplied to the interior of container 16 thorugh a pipe 12 and nozzle 11 by operating the lever 15 of a Bowden wire air supply control mechanism 13. Leakage in the container will be indicated by the formation of air bubbles in the water. The clamp 6 is then raised from the water and the container 16 removed and the small aperture and any leaks therein soldered.
