Abstract

734,330. Mixing-appliances. LINTAFOAM INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 25, 1953, No. 20710/53. Addition to 694,284. Class 86. The apparatus of the parent Specification for the manufacture of foamed latex, is modified in that the proportion of latex to air is determined ' by the level of latex maintained in a latex supply tank 23, the proportion of latex to air increasing as the level of latex in the tank 23 is raised. The rate of delivery of foamed latex is determined by the rate at which air is supplied to the foaming apparatus. The means for regulating the level of latex in the tank 23 comprises a vertically adjustable electrode 33, an electronic tube switch device 32 and a solenoid valve 30, 31 which controls the air supply of a pneumatically operated valve 25 in a flexible latex supply pipe 24. The latex flows from the bottom of the tank 23, along a pipe 17 and into the lower end of the conical shell 16 of the foaming apparatus, from the upper end of which the foamed latex is discharged. The air is supplied through a control valve 22 and gauge 21 and enters the foaming apparatus through a pipe 18. An increase in the rate of air supply reduces the back pressure exerted by the latex in the foaming apparatus upon the latex in the tank 23, causing the level of latex in the tank 23 to fall, thus correspondingly increasing the rate at which latex is supplied through the pipe 24, and hence correspondingly increasing the rate of delivery of foamed latex having the proportions determined by the setting of the electrode 33.
