Abstract
559,001. Mixing liquids. BOBY & CO., Ltd., W., and SCOWEN, J. J. E. Sept. 3, 1942, No. 12481. [Class 86] Apparatus for controlling the pH value of liquids comprises a device responsive to the rate of flow of the liquid to be treated, a device responsive to the pH value of the liquid, and means operable by each device to adjust independently the rate of supply of corrective fluid. Corrective fluid in a vessel 14 is supplied to a trough 18 under the control of a ball float 19. This fluid passes to a vessel 23 under the control of a needle valve 24 secured to a diaphragm 25 exposed to different pressures according to the flow of the liquid to be treated, flowing in the main 10. A device 30 of any known form responsive to the pH value of the liquid controls the height of an overflow pipe 31 by which the corrective liquid flows from the vessel 23 to a vessel 33, from which it is pumped to the main. In a modification, a trough pivoted to swing horizontally may deliver to a receiving chamber divided by a partition plate movable by the pH control, the trough being moved by the rate of flow device. Alternatively, a weir tank having a float may be used.
