599,911. Mixing liquids in flow. BOBY & CO., Ltd., W., and SCOWEN, J. J. E. Aug. 22, 1944, No. 15992. Addition to 559,001. [Class 86] The apparatus of the parent Specification is modified in that the corrective fluid is supplied through a single control means, which is operated both by a device responsive to the rate of flow of the liquid to be treated, and a device responsive to the pH of the liquid. The flow responsive device comprises a float 10 whose vertical position is controlled by the rate of flow of liquid over a weir in a tank 11. A vertical rod 12 mounted in guides 13 is secured to the float 10 and is connected by a wire 14 passing over pulleys 16, 17, 18 to a needle valve 19 which operates in an orifice 20 in a tank 21, to which the corrective fluid is supplied from a constant level tank. A vertical movement of the float 10 is transmitted to the needle valve 19, which is also operated by the vertical movement of the pulley 17. The latter is mounted on a rod 29 joined to a wire 33 which passes around a pulley 32 rotatable by the pH responsive device. Further modifications are described in which the movable pulley is caused to move both horizontally and vertically under the action of the pH responsive device.
