A flow-control apparatus comprises a tank 1 having an outlet 2 and an inlet 4 leading from a feed pipe 5 housing a valve 6. A member 10 is maintained in alignment with the inlet and controls the valve 6 through a lever 8, contacting the member 10, in response to the movement of the member 10 under the action of fluid entering at 4 and impinging on the member. The lever 8 and member 10 are biased towards the inlet and movement of the member 10 away from the inlet acts to close the valve. The member 10 may be a ball as shown, retained by rods 11 and liquid may be bypassed through a valve controlled pipe 12 to act on the upper side of the ball. This by-pass may be omitted and an adjustable weight provided on the lever 8. In a further modification a flat float-like member replaces the ball and is secured to the lever 8. The tank is transparent so that the member 10 provides an indication of flow. Electrical indicator devices may be provided actuated by movement of the member.
