Abstract
952,817. Valves. V. C. HANSEN. Sept. 20, 1962, No. 35883/62. Heading F2V. The water supply to a horticultural watering plant (not shown) is controlled by a diaphragm valve 10 having an operating lever 9 connected by a cord 8 to a two-armed pivoted lever 2. The lever 2 carries, on one arm, an open container 3 supplied via resistor 14 and stop cocks 15 with water from the outlet of valve 10 and a counterweight 4 on the other arm. The arrangement is such that the water evaporates from the container 3 until the weight of the remaining water is unbalanced by the weight 4 whereupon the lever 2 is moved clcckwise to open the valve 10. The water passes from inlet 12 to outlet 11 and on to the watering plant and also via pipe 13 to the tank 3 until the weight 4 is balanced and the lever 2 is returned to its initial position closing the valve 10. The duration of opening of the valve 10 may be regulated by selective operation of the stop cocks 15 and/or by movement of the weight 4. The sensitivity of the device may be varied by movement of the weight 6 along the depending arm 5.
