Feeding-devices for granular and like materials. - In apparatus of the kind described in Specification 8399/08 [Class 106, Registering &c.], for delivering powder at any required rate, principally for the softening of water and having, within a vessel cf inverted conical shape, a rotating expeller which by its movement forces powder out through a rectangular opening of variable size, and with one side horizontal, in the side of the vessel, the opening is made of fixed height and variable width so as to prevent the possibility of powder flowing out of its own accord. The height chosen is such that the material does not flow through the opening without the help of the expeller. The vessel c containing the powder and the expeller f with an arm g for breaking up the powder, is provided with a door b sliding horizontally between guides e, e<1> and adapted to vary the width of the opening d. A set-screw may be used to fix the door in any one position, or a screw-and-nut adjustment may be fitted.
