Abstract
740,672. Proportionate mixing of fluids in flow. KALLE, K. T. Feb. 3, 1954, No. 3253/54. Class 86. [Also in Groups XXVI and XXIX] Apparatus for controlling the supply of a liquid (e.g. the supply in a predetermined ratio of a dye to a fluid medium in flow) comprises a rotary pump having an inlet for the liquid and an inlet for gas, an outlet with a restricted passage for the mixture of liquid and gas, a discharge pressure actuated valve controlling the supply of the gas, and a supply of compressed gas also for controlling the valve. In the form described liquid is supplied to the vessel 16 by the pipe 31 and leaves by the pipe 30. The rotary pump 1 pumps another liquid from container 3 through pipes 2 and 18 into the vessel 16. The restriction 17 causes a back pressure to be set up in the pump and this pressure is transmitted by the pipe 19 to the Bourdon tube 21 which tends to straighten and open the valve 23, allowing air (or gas) to be sucked through the flexible pipe 5 and the pipe 4 into the pump together with the liquid, causing the back pressure to decrease and the valve 23 to close. When the valve 23 reaches an equilibrium position and the discharge of liquid from the pump is steady, this equilibrium position, and so the discharge of liquid, can be adjusted by means of the screw 28. A source of compressed gas at constant pressure is connected to the pipe 8a and by means of the fine bore pipe 15 the gas escapes below the surface of the liquid in the vessel 16. The rate of flow out of the pipe 30 increases as the level of the liquid in the vessel 16 rises so increasing the pressure in the pipes 15, 8, the restriction 13 preventing the pressure of the supply of gas being affected, and the Bourdon tube 7 tends to straighten so lowering the valve seat 6 and throttling to air supply, the liquid discharge of pump 1 increases and by adjusting the screw 12 the rate of liquid discharged by pump 1 can be made proportional to the head of liquid in the vessel 16.
