Abstract
704,446. Proportionate mixing of liquids. VAPOR HEATING CORPORATION. July 15, 1952 [Aug. 3, 1951], No. 17901/52. Class 86 Apparatus for delivering water treatment solution into a reservoir for boiler feed water comprises a storage, tank for water treatment solution, a measuring tank for segregating a measured quantity of solution from the storage tank, a supply conduit connecting the measuring tank with the reservoir and means for applying pressure fluid to the solution in the measuring tank to torce the solution therein into the reservoir. A measuring tank 24 receives water treatment solution from a storage tank 23 by way of a conduit 25 containing a one way check valve 26. An air delivery pipe 29 which includes a solenoid control valve 28 connects the measuring tank 24 with a source of compressed air. A water reservoir for boiler feed water is adapted to be filled through a pipe 21 having a shut off valve 22 which may be a manual control valve, as shown, or. may be arranged for automatic operation in response to high and low levels of water in the reservoir 11. A branch pipe 37 in the pipe 21 passes into a chamber 38 of a diaphragm operated switch 34, the arrangement being such that the switch 34 is closed when water flows through the pipe 21 thereby completing an electric circuit which operates the solenoid valve 28 and applies compressed air to the solution in the measuring tank to force the solution therein through a pipe 27, and a spring closed valve 30 into the reservoir 11. The pipe 27 has a common inlet into the reservoir with a pipe 20 which returns water from the boiler 18 to the reservoir, and a one way check valve 31 is inserted in the pipe 27 to prevent the returning water from being forced into the measuring tank. After a charge of solution has been delivered from the measuring tank and the valve 22 is closed, the air in the measuring tank is slowly vented by way of a restricted branch pipe 32 into the storage tank 23 and thereafter from the tank 23 through a vent pipe 33, allowing a fresh charge of treatment solution to pass into the mixing tank 24. The restricted venting means 32 delays the refilling of the measuring tank 24 sufficiently to permit an interruption in the delivery of water into the reservoir 11 for a period of time without resulting in the delivery of a second charge of water treatment solution into the reservoir.
