Abstract
538,810. Valves. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., HARVEY, R., and SARSON, A. E. March 8, 1940, No. 4372. [Class 135] A water heater provided with interconnected valves for controlling the inflow of cold water and the outflow of hot water, the hot water valve being arranged to open before the cold water valve has both valves formed as spring- loaded rubber-faced lift valves, separate from their actuating spindles. The cold water 6 is actuated directly by a spindle 25 having screw-threads 31 engaging corresponding threads in a bonnet 32. The hot water valve 7 is actuated by an unthreaded spindle 26 secured to an arm 29 engaging a second series of threads 35 on the spindle 25. These threads are of opposite hand to the threads 31 and have half the pitch so that the valve 7 is opened at one end a half times the rate at which the valve 6 is opened. The water heater may be fitted with a regulating valve and drainage arrangement as described in Specification 479,609, [Group XIII].
