Abstract

540,772. Valves. ASCOT GAS WATER HEATERS, Ltd., and GREEN, L. A. May 16, 1940, No. 8766. [Class 135] The interlocked gas and water valves of a gas heated water heater are so arranged that the water supply must increase a certain amount above the permissible minimum before the gas valve can be closed. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the handle 8 of the gas valve 7 is provided with a plate having a cut-away or recessed part 10, a thicker part 11 and a thinner part 12. In the position shown the gas valve 7 is locked in its closed position by a boss 6 on the handle of the water valve engaging the cut-away part 10. When the water valve has been opened far enough to take the boss above the thicker part of the plate the gas cock may be opened and when fully open the thinner part of the plate is beneath the boss so that the water valve can be reclosed to a minimum position but must be reopened to the intermediate position before the gas cock can be closed.
