Abstract

536,536. Valves. BRITISH OXYGEN CO., Ltd., and JONES, W. Nov. 16, 1939, No. 30185. [Class 135] A plug cock particularly adapted for regulating the relative proportions of gases and vapours in apparatus for the administration of inhalents and comprising a hollow forked plug working in a ported liner has means for imparting a uniform circumferential axial thrust to the plug to adjust the relative positions of the plug and liner. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the liner 12 has two pairs of diametrically opposed ports 13, 14 and 15, 16 and is enclosed in a casing 10 of synthetic resin such as that sold under the Registered Trade Mark "Bakelite" having an internally threaded boss 11 for securing the casing to the neck of a receptacle for anaesthetic or other liquid. The casing has two passages 17 18, mating with the ports 13, 15 fitted with dip pipes extending into the receptacle and two passages 19, 20 mating with the ports 14, 16 leading to a byepass passage closed by a cover 22. The hollow plug has two ports 27, 29 of greater longitudinal length than the ports 13, 15 arranged on either side of a partition 25. The port 27 is adapted to connect either or both of the ports 13, 14. with the inlet 12 while the port 29 is adapted to connect either or both of the ports 15, 16 with the outlet 23. The position of the plug is adjusted by two screwed rings 30, 31 secured by locking rings 32, 33 the ring 30 being screwed into the liner to engage the larger end of the plug while the ring 31 screws into the casing to engage the smaller end of the plug. The plug is turned by a handle 36 passing through a slot in the liner and in a fitting 26 mounted on the liner and carrying an indicating scale 37. The fitting 26 is secured in position by the boss of a grease cap 34 screwed through the fitting into a recess in the liner.
