Abstract
533,802. Helmets. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., and LOBELLE, M. J. O. Nov. 27, 1939, No.,30879. [Class 631 A helmet is provided with a visor f pivotally mounted so that it may be lowered in front of the eyes or raised inside the helmet. A bearing b secured to the underside of the brim at the front engages a stout wire c pivoted to the rear lower corner of the visor and to a link e pivoted to a bifurcated stud d secured to the underside of the brim. The visor may be of thin sheet steel suitably perforated or of chain mail or like flexible reticulated material stretched over a framework. Finger grips m enable the visor to be raised or lowered, a spring clip k engages the inside of the helmet to hold the visor in its raised position. The linkage moves through a dead centre position so that the visor tends to remain either fully up or fully down. Give in the link e may allow the movement, or a loose pivotal connection or resilient bearing may be provided. In a modification, the bearings for the links may be carried by a separate member. secured to the brim of the helmet, which member may be integral with straps passing inside the helmet to a bolt at the centre of the crown.
