Abstract

533,441. Couplings for grease guns. MADDISON, T. B., McNEILL, J., and PARKER, J. Aug. 8, 1939, No. 22911. [Classes 99 (i) and 102 (ii)] A coupling member for attaching a lubricating-device to a nipple A comprises a sleeve 10 movable axially on a piston 17 to bring balls 22 into engagement with a recess in the nipple, the sleeve having cam recesses 16 which force the balls through holes in a tubular extension of the piston 17. A non-return valve 24 may be provided in the bore 19 leading from the lubricating-conduit 30 to the bore of the nipple. The conduit 30 may be extended as a long-arm, or may be attached to a long wooden handle 32, Fig. 2, having a separate conduit 36 leading to the hand-actuated pump 34, 35, the sleeve 10 being actuated by a hand lever 41 and connections 39, 40, or a cable, or hydraulic means. The balls 22 may be replaced by pivoted jaws.
