Abstract
480,687. Control transmitting mechanism for aircraft. DOWTY, G. H. Aug. 22, 1936, No. 23159. [Class 4] [Also in Group XXIX] In a flap-operating system for aircraft in which a jack is operated in one sense by positive fluid pressure, a pressure accumulator is provided having permanent fluid connection with the jack, adapted, also, to receive fluid against resilient resistance and is arranged in parallel with the jack. As shown, a reservoir 1 supplies pressure fluid to an engine-driven pump 2 and thence through a control system, e.g. as described in Specification 480,674 to one or other side of a double-acting flapoperating jack or jacks 3 through one or other of pipes 4, 5. An accumulator 7 having a free piston 8 is inserted in the pipe line 4 which is the supply during extension of the jack. The cylinder on the side of the piston opposite the fluid is provided with a union 10 through which the pressure of the air in the right-hand end of the cylinder may be varied. A spring or other resilient means may act on the piston.
