Abstract
508,231. Hydraulic transmission of power. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd., PARKER; S. M., and THORNHILL, P. W. Feb. 3, 1938, No. 3445. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] A telescopic jack more particularly for aircraft retractable undercarriages having a piston 15 moved in. both directions, by fluid pressure, comprises an auxiliary working space 30 adapted to be fed from an auxiliary supply during an emergency. The piston 15, which is normally operated by fluid from a pump 23 directed by a reversing valve 25 into a chamber 30 or a chamber 21, is fitted with a tubular piston-rod 13 in which operates a piston 16 having a rod 17 passing through the piston 15 and fixed to the cylinder head 11. The auxiliary working space 30 in the tubular rod 13 is adapted to be supplied in an emergency, with compressed gas from a cylinder 31 through the hollow rod 17 in order to extend the jack. The cock 33 controlling the cylinder 31 is linked to a cock 42 adapted to connect the fluid spaces on the two sides of the piston 15 to eliminate fluid resistance to this piston.
