Abstract

319,430. Luvax, Ltd., and Pitt, H. W. July 4, 1928. Actuating by liquid pressure.-A lubricant pump is actuated during an interval in each alternate stroke of a piston b which is reciprocated continuously in a cylinder a. The piston is moved in one direction by oil under pressure supplied continuously through an inlet d. At the end of the stroke, a valve g in the piston is opened by contact of its stem f with an adjustable abutment h, the piston being then returned by a spring c. The valve is then closed by contact of its stem with an abutment k. The valve is maintained in one or other position by a blade spring j, or by balls engaging grooves in the stem and encircled by a spring ring. An oil outlet i leading to a sump is provided at the end of the cylinder remote from the inlet d. The piston b, after it has moved a predetermined distance, engages a spring- pressed pump plunger b<1> working in a cylinder a<1> provided with inlet and outlet connections m, n. An auxiliary oil inlet q to the cylinder a is positioned so that, when the piston b engages the piston b<1>, the piston b has moved beyond the inlet q, whereby the pressure on the piston b is augmented during the latter part of the stroke.
