Single-acting suctionvalveless piston pumps; s c c t i o n reservoirs; valves, arrangement of.- In a lubricating pump of the kind claimed in the parent Specification, the piston 10 in the grease container 7 is put under pressure to force the grease into the pump barrel 6. The pressure may be applied by the grease delivered from the barrel acting on the end of a small annular piston 12 carried by the piston 10. The grease reaches the piston 12 through ports 24 in the seat of the delivery valve 15. The pump plunger 2 is forced. by hand into the barrel 6 and is returned by a spring 29. The grease in the barrel 6 is forced past the valve 15 into a chamber 23 and thence through a pipe 18 to the union 19 which has a groove 20 adapted to engage a collar 21 on the nipple 22. The pipe 18 is connected to the cylinder 11 by a ball joint packed by a cup leather 17. In another form, the plunger is carried by the top of the container which is pushed towards the nipple and slides over the pump barrel. In another form. the plunger is rigid with the discharge pipe and delivery is effected by pulling the container in a direction away from the nipple. In another form, the delivery valve first opens slightly to admit the pressure grease to the end of the annular piston 12 and then opens fully to permit discharge to the nipple. In another form, the piston 10 is forced upwards by a spring arranged between the cylinder 11 and the extension of the piston.
