Abstract

532,997. Composition fuel. BEAR, P. W. Oct. 2, 1939, No. 26963 [Class 50] A composition for promoting combustion of solid carbonaceous fuel in furnaces consists of an oxygen yielding inorganic compound such as potassium chlorate, and an oxygen liberating inorganic catalyst such as manganese dioxide, together with a hydrocarbon such as is contained in the essential oils of plants, and containing at least one of the terpene hydrocarbons. Such plants are milkweed, mint and burdock which are digested in water, 9 bushels of the mixed plants being digested in 40 gallons of boiling water, and 1¢ quarts of the extract added to 1 lb. of manganese di-oxide and 1¢ lbs. of potassium chlorate. The mixture is sprayed on to the fire, or is absorbed by activated charcoal which is made into porous blocks by the addition of cement, and steam is then driven through the blocks to extract the chemicals and deliver them to the fuel.
