Abstract
To obtain an inflammable semi-liquid which has the properties of active combustion of long duration and adhesiveness during burning, petrol, benzol, kerosene or like inflammable liquid is bound with an inflammable gel which destroys its mobility. This gel is produced by treating coal tar or its fractions with finely divided quicklime in the presence of a controlled proportion of water. The tar used may contain a proportion of pitch which, on precipitation, forms part of the gel. Oxygen-containing substances such as nitre, manganese dioxide, chlorates or iron oxide may be added. A solid combustible such as naphthalene may be used to increase the ease of ignition, and sawdust up to 10 per cent. when a solid fuel is produced. Rubber may be added to increase the adhesive nature. Specification 471,216 is referred to.
