Abstract

277,540. Levy, L. A. Jan. 25, 1927. Respirators.-An absorbent composition for use in respirators consists of a mixture of hydrated barium hydroxide, slaked lime, and caustic potash or soda with or without activated carbon, an example being hydrated barium hydroxide 2700 grams, caustic soda 150 grams, water 250 grams, slaked lime 1800 grams, and activated charcoal 490 grams. In preparation, the caustic soda is dissolved in the water, the barium hydroxide added and the whole heated until fluid. The mixed lime and charcoal are then stirred into the mass which, when cold, is broken up and sifted.
