Abstract

529,133. Supply meters. SANGAMO WESTON, Ltd. May 22, 1939, No. 15238. Convention date, Dec. 15, 1938. [Class 37] [Also in Group XXXIV] A meter of the induction type has an E- shaped permanent brake magnet having three poles of alternate polarity so spaced that there is substantial interaction betweenthe eddy currents generated in the disc under any one pole and the flux of the adjacent pole or poles. As shown in Fig. 5 the brake magnet is an E-shaped permanent magnet 31 having poles 32, 33, 34 above the disc 17, a magnetic return piece 35 being provided below the disc. The poles 32, 33, 34 may be in one plane or they may be arranged in a circular arc as shown at 32<1>, 331, 34<1>, Fig. 6. Eddy currents 37, 38 interact with the poles 32<1>, 33<1>, 34<1> to produce a retarding torque. The sides 40 of the poles may be radial with respect to the centre of the disc 17. The return piece 35 may be replaced by a second permanent magnet similar to the magnet 31 and having poles of opposite polarity facing the disc 17. A screw 41 is provided for adjusting the radial position of the magnet 31. The air gap A may also be varied.
