[Class 126] An apertured refractory body forming with a firebrick back c a hot gas region above the burner b comprises one or more rectangular elements each composed of bars d of triangular cross-section having their rear surfaces f inclined so as to deflect the rising gases inwardly and to minimize the escape of gases through the spaces e between the bars. Discolouration of the bars is thereby lessened. The surfaces f may be formed with inwardly directed ribs g having a scrubbing action on the gases without materially impeding their flow.
