Abstract

529,037. Plate heat-exchangers. WATKINSON, E. April 11, 1939, No. 10970. [Class 64 (iii)] A furnace air-heater is built up from component plates provided on either side with heat transmission needles or ribs. The top and bottom edges of the plates 6 may be formed with flanges 8 which are secured by bolts, and needles 7 are provided on both sides of the plates. At one end, each plate is formed with a groove 9<1> to receive the opposite end of the next plate. The long cross-sectional dimension of each needle is arranged to face the stream of air or gas ; the proportion and spacing may be as described in Specification 394,324. In a modification, the plates are used in a framework built up from flanged members such as angle iron.
