[Also in Divisions G6 and H2] Heat transfer plates forming part of or located within a fluid duct have a rectangular waveform cross-section, and are arranged with the channels 15A (Fig. 4) formed in the plates set at an angle to the longitudinal direction of fluid flow over the plate surface. In the regenerator of Fig. 3, a matrix 11 is formed by vertical ducts 16 (Fig. 4) containing plates 15 spaced from the crosswalls by strips 14. Hot gases pass up through one half of the regenerator, and cold air passes down through the other half.
