Abstract
527,379. Compressed air engines. FINLAY, R. P., and FINLAY CONVEYOR CO., Ltd. April 11, 1939, No. 10895. [Class 122 (iii)] A double acting reciprocating elastic fluid motor suitable for operating reciprocating conveyers, comprises a main cylinder 1 aligned with an auxiliary cylinder 2 of smaller diameter. The pistons 6, 7, are on a single piston rod 8. A valve 10 controls the supply of elastic fluid to the working side of the piston 6. The other side of the piston 6 is open to the atmosphere through ports 9 in the cylinder 1. The cylinder 2 is surrounded by a receiver 3 and has ports 4 leading thereto. The receiver may be connected to the supply source of elastic fluid through a spring loaded relief valve, and it may be sub-divided into compartments which can be cut out or brought into use at will. During the working stroke of the piston 6 air behind the piston 7 is forced through the ports 4 into the receiver 3 and compressed so that the return stroke of the piston 6 is made under the action of this compressed air acting on the piston 7.
