Abstract

327,101. Salmon, P. Oct. 6, 1925. Pistons.-The trolley of an aircraft launching device is accelerated by a series of cylinders 1 - - 4 sliding one within the other, the cylinders 2, 3. 4 having pistons each closing one end of an annular space 11 normally filled with oil. A piston 22 in the cylinder 4 is normally kept in the position shown by air under pressure in the forward end of the cylinder. As the cylinder 2 is driven out from the cylinder 1 the oil from each space 11 is forced through ports 8 into the next cylinder until the ports are closed by the cylinder heads. Additional smaller ports 9 provide for cushioning the cylinder at the end of the stroke.
