Abstract

386,830. Cylinders. NATIONAL PNEUMATIC CO., 420, Lexington Avenue, New York, U.S.A. March 31, 1932, No. 9291. Convention date, April 9, 1931. [Class 122 (i).] A pneumatic door-operating unit has two pistons working conjointly in one cylinder and a device for cushioning the movement at the ends of either stroke. The cylinder A, B contains two pistons T, U connected by the hollow piston-rods O, P. These form the cylinders of pistons G, R, having hollow rods V, W. When the port K is open to suction and the opposite end port open to pressure the pistons T, U with the door - operating member N move to the left. Atmospheric air entering the port 5<1> past the ball valve 9 similarly moves piston G to the left until the rod V engages the cylinder end when the air contained in the cylinder O to the right of the piston will be trapped, only escaping slowly through the restricted port 7, thus cushioning the stroke. Rings Ta, Vc of absorbent material are provided to retain lubricating oil which is introduced into the cylinders through the ports closed by plugs 3, 4.
