Abstract
527,027. Cables. DUNCAN, W. H. March 28, 1939, No. 9690. [Class 36] The longitudinally-extending duct or ducts of an oil or gas-filled compound-impregnated cable consists of flexible metal braid, for example of tinned copper, which may form a central core of a stranded conductor or be disposed around the outside of a solid or stranded conductor. Alternatively, the braid may be helically lapped over a solid of stranded central core and be surrounded by further conductor strands, or it may be introduced as an intersheath at some central position in the insulation. The braid of a gas-filled cable may be disposed between an inner and outer lead sheath. The braid may have a cross-section of one-third copper and two-thirds air-space.
