Cores for cables. - Relates to a conductor for use in overhead high-tension transmission lines, in which a core of stranded wires is surrounded by an annular conductive shell of metal strips which fit together and have a smooth outer surface. According to the invention, the strips a, Fig. 1, which surround the stranded core b, are formed with projections and recesses which interlock and prevent relative displacement of the strips. The projections and recesses may be of various shapes and they may be dispensed with, if, as shown in Fig. 7, the strips are made sufficiently deep. In this'case, the lateral meeting surfaces of the strips support one another when the conductor is bent. The wires of the core, and the strips, may be made of different metals.
