Abstract
334,814. Siemens - Schuckertwerke Akt.-Ges. Jan. 8, 1929, [Convention date]. Addition to 804,799. Cables with conductive shields. - In a long distance communication cable of the type described in the parent Specification in which similar conductors are formed into bundles which are stranded to form a main cable, the bundles are now provided with a metal coating of lead, lead alloys, tinfoil bands, or metal coated paper bands. The main cable is covered with a water-tight covering of lead, lead alloys, rubber or guttapercha. As shown in Fig. 1, the cable consists of stranded bundles a, b, c, each having a lead sheath d. The bundles have different numbers and sizes of wires. An iron sheath e surrounds the cable. In Fig. 2, wires of like type are each combined in two bundles g, g<1>, f, f<1>, similar bundles being arranged opposite to each other in the cable. Each bundle is wound with tinfoil h, and, on stranding, shaping rolls press the bundles so that the main cable has a circular section. A lead coating i surrounds the main cable. In Fig. 3, bundles k - - n, each having separate numbers and sizes of wires, are each covered with metallized paper p, and, on stranding, are altered in shape so that the main cable has a circular section. A lead coating q covers the main cable.
