349,857. Cables. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE AKT. - GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Aug. 26, 1930, No. 25479. Convention date, Nov. 2, 1929. [Class 36.] In submarine communication cables having mechanically weak conductors, e.g. of a diameter of 1 mm. or less, a tension member of high strength is arranged in the interior of the cable core. The tension member may be formed as a wire, rope or twisted band, and may have a star section and may serve to support the lead sheath. The cable core may be bound, preferably only at intervals, with wires or bands so as to impart frictional resistance to the stranded conductors and the tension member. In the construction of Fig. 1, conductors 3 surround a tension wire 2, the lead sheath 4 being supported by a tubular metal sheath 5. Fig. 2 shows a tension member 12 in the form of a twisted band which serves to support a lead sheath 14.
