Abstract

502,485. Conductors combined with ropes. SIEMENS - SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES. Sept. 17, 1937, No. 25273. Convention date, Sept. 18, 1936. [Class 36] A rope, such as a harpoon line, or a towing line, comprises a fibrous or metal stranded element, or a plurality of such elements twisted together, one or more insulated electric conductors being arranged within the strands of the element or at least one of the elements. The strands of the element or elements containing a conductor are bound together by one or more strong threads or cords wound in spaced turns about the strands with a lay different from or opposite to that of the strands to prevent the conductor from protruding between the strands. In the construction shown, the rope comprises three stranded elements each constituted by hemp strands 1 which envelop an insulated conductor 2. The convolutions of the strands 1 are bound together by a double ply hemp cord 3 which is applied with a lay substantially equal to the diameter of the element.
