Abstract

524,952. Sectional boilers. RECK, C. F. Feb. 10, 1939, No. 4486. [Class 123 (ii)] Sectional steel boilers have baffle walls 6 behind the furnace 1 made of contiguous parallel tubes interconnectec above and below by transverse tubes, the outer tubes having a greater depth from front to rear than the inner tubes of the walls and forming the side walls of the flue. Gaps are provided for the gases alternately above and below the walls. The outer tubes 10 of the walls of flattened circular section have overlapping ribs 11 secured together by screw-bolts. Other constructions are circular or rectangular in section and sufficiently large to dispense with ribs. Or the ribs may form a butt joint, or the rib on one tube be engaged by a rolled section iron on the adjacent tube. An alternative method of assembly employs a screw-stay running the whole length of the boiler through eyes on the furnace front and baffle walls.
