[Class 99 (i)] In jointing a tube B to an end plate A of a high-pressure smoke-tube boiler, the thickness of the plate at the hole into which the tube end is inserted and expanded is reduced by recessing or countersinking the hole for an appreciable portion of its depth, preferably on the fire side of the plate. The extreme end of the tube may be beadedover as shown.
