Abstract

515,291. Chimneys. BIRD, K. H. June 16, 1938, No. 17929. [Class 25] [Also in Group XI] In the combination of a fireplace lintel 1 in the form of a slab of vertically - elongated rectangular shape in general cross - section and a pair of blocks 2 arranged on its back and spaced from one another to define th sides of a central flue opening, the blocks have converging inner faces and vertical outer faces 12 spaced from the ends of the lintel, and the zone 7 of the lintel which lies between the blocks is tapered off downwardly by sloping the rear face of the slab forwardly. The blocks 2 may be integral with, or as shown may be separate from and may interlock with, the lintel 1. The blocks may be shallower than or of equal depth with the lintel., The lintel may have provision for varying the spacing of the blocks. A secondary lintel may be formed integral with or attached to the top of the lintel 1.
