Abstract

557,853. Alloy steel. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. June 4, 1942, No. 7602. Convention date, Aug. 6, 1941. [Class 82 (i)] [Also in Groups XII and XXII] A furnace wall or baffle tube 13, Fig. 4, has a flat tangential face formed by welding longitudinal bars or strips 14 to the front of the tube, the space in the face between the bars or strips being filled in with weld metal. Bars of square, rectangular or polygonal cross sections are placed in edge contact with the tube and secured by weld metal at the back and front. Weld metal is deposited between inclined strips 32, Fig. 10, which are held against a tube during welding by chill bars 34. The bars are made up of alloy steel having the composition C 0.15 per cent., Mn 0.5 per cent., S 0.03 per cent., P 0.03 per cent., Si 1.0 per cent., Cr 6.5-7.5 per cent., Mo 0.45-0.65 per cent.
