Abstract
524,427. Luminiscent and fluorescent surfaces. NEONELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and SCARFF, O. P. Jan. 31, 1939, No. 3300. [Class 15 (ii)] [Also in Group XL] In coating glass or other surfaces with luminescent or fluorescent powders by means of a binder, a sulphonated fatty alcohol is added to the usual mixture which ultimately forms the binder. Borax, sodium phosphate, Water glass or potassium silicate may also be present. The process is suitable for the manufacture of electric discharge and other lamps which incorporate a luminiscent or fluorescent surface. A binder may be formed by mixing glycerine, phosphoric acid or phosphorous acid with aqueous alcohol and adding sulphonated lorol. In order to secure even distribution it is only necessary to drain off the adhesive composition, but wads of surgical wool may be passed through the glass tubes &c. by means of compressed air to remove the excess. According to the Provisional Specification the sulphonated fatty alcohol may be replaced by any substance which will reduce the surface tension.
