Abstract

A silicic ester of the formula <FORM:0168659/2/1> is prepared by heating 4 molecular parts of tetramethyl silicate with 3 molecular parts of water.ALSO:A solution containing a high percentage of silicic acid is obtained by hydrolizing an organic silicon compound, e.g. tetramethylic silicate or a condensate-product thereof. Hydrolysis may be effected by water or dilute acid, either alone or in the presence of phosphorus pentoxide or an alcoholate of an alkaline earth metal or of magnesium or of aluminium or both. Examples of proportions are given.
