291,850. Ellis, G. B., (Chemical Works formerly Sandoz). March 4, 1927. Salts of m-aminoberzoic acid alkyl esters with alkylsulphonic acids are prepared by interaction of the two components in equimolecular propertions, or by double decomposition in suitable solvents of soluble salts of m-aminobenzoic acid esters, e.g. hydrochorides, hydrobromides or sulphates with alkali and alkaline earth metal salts of alkylsulphonic acids. The products possess anµsthetic properties; they are readily soluble in water to form solutions which are stable on boiling. Examples are given of the preparation of salts of m-aminobenzoic acid ethyl, n-propyl and isobutyl esters with methane and ethanesulphonic acids. m-Aminobenzoic acid n-propyl and isobutyl esters are obtained by heating m-nitrobenzoyl chloride with n-propyl and isobutyl alcohol respectively and reducing the resulting m-nitrobenzoic acid esters with iron filings and acetic acid.
