Abstract
523,019. Yeast. INTERNATIONAL YEAST CO., Ltd., MEYER, E. A., and CHAFFE, P. W. Dec. 22, 1938, No. 37294. [Class 14 (ii)] A high yield of yeast is obtained by maintaining the optimum temperature e.g., 86‹F. for the fermentation organisms used, for a substantial period e.g. 4 hours and cooling e.g. to 75‹F., with or without a rise in temperature near the end of the working period. Cooling may be effected by a cooling coil or by adding cold water. In an example 300 kg. of molasses were diluted and clarified, part of the liquor further diluted, seed yeast added, after 4 hours the temperature was reduced for 6 hours and raised for the last 2 hours, the remainder of the molasses and the usual nutrient salts being added at intervals throughout the working period.
