Abstract
An alkaline earth salt of butyric or acetic acid is used to regulate the hydrogen ion concentration of a mash producing butyl alcohol by fermentation with bacteria whose metabolism is favoured by a hydrogen ion concentration lower than that the bacteria, e.g. clostridium invertoaceto-, saccharoaceto- and propylbutylicum, alone produce. Specification 415,312, 437,120, and 437,121 are referred to.
