Abstract

522,988. Drying gases. HAYWOOD, F. W., GRENE, G. H. S., and WILD-BARFIELD ELECTRIC FURNACES, Ltd. Dec. 22, 1938, No. 37321. [Class 34 (i)] Gas driers are arranged in a battery of at least three and are so connected that each in turn is used to dry the gas, is heated to revive the desiccant and is cooled ready for use, the heating during revivification being external. The driers either move in'turn to each station, or are fixed and the stations or connections are moved. The driers 1 .. 3 containing silica gel are mounted on a rotatable table 4 with an insulating wall between them so that each may be insulated when turned to a recess in a furnace wall. A cooling or heating jacket may be placed over the driers, under which they rotate. Gas to be dried is led by pipe 6 to drier 1 and hence by pipe 7 to a furnace. A little of the dried, gas is led by pipe 8 to drier 3 being cooled and then by pipe 9 to the drier being heated. The pipe 8 has a regulator 11 and flow meter 12. The table is rotated through 120 degrees under a time or hygrometric control; and in order to change the connections to the driers, the table has ports which come into alignment with passages in plates 13 beneath the table forming a multi-way valve. The valve passages may be arranged in a tapered drum beneath the table. More than three driers, preferably in multiples of three, may be used.
