Abstract
521,572. Electrodeposition of chromium. STOKES, F. W., and SHEEPBRIDGE STOKES CENTRIFUGAL CASTINGS CO., Ltd. Nov. 22, 1938, No. 33980. [Class 41] Metal surfaces, particularly of iron castings, such as the wearing surfaces of internal-combustion engine cylinder liners, to be hardened by the electrolytic deposition of chromium thereon are first rendered highly smooth, e.g., by machining and honing, then de-smoothed to a controlled extent by shot-blasting, knurling, or acid etching, followed if necessary by further honing to reduce the depth of the depressions formed in the surface to the order of 0.002- 0.003 inch.
