Abstract

520,428. Rubber compositions. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., TWISS, D. F., KEMP. I., and WARREN, F. W. Sept. 22, 1938, No. 27614. [Class 70] Fireproof rubber compositions formed of rubber, gutta percha, balata &c. mixed with incombustible halogenated organic compounds, are treated so that the action of flame upon them produces a charred mass which resists fusion, by incorporating before or after vulcanization substances which give residues of boric acid or phosphoric acid or fusible heatresistant compounds of these acids or of sulphuric acid. Ammonium borate or disodium hydrogen phosphate may be used. The substances may be added to a vulcanized sponge by impregnating with an aqueous solution and drying.
