Abstract

520,329. Gun fire control. INDIA RUBBER, GUTTA PERCHA, & TELEGRAPH WORKS CO., Ltd., TARRIS, F. J., and WEBB, D. Aug. 25, 1938, No. 25057. [Classes 92 (i) and 92 (ii)] Relates to fluid-pressure-operated gun fire control means of the kind on which a main valve 29, Fig. 1, is operated, either to supply pressure fluid to actuate the gun firing motor 22, or to permit the pressure fluid to escape to a return connection. According to the invention, an auxiliary valve 31, similar to the main control valve, is controlled by movements of the gun so as to prevent pressure fluid passing to the motor 22 when the gun is moved to an endangering .position. Fig. 1 shows a remotely-controlled hydraulic firing circuit for a gun 23 which includes reservoir 10, pump 12, accumulator 15, pressure pipe lines 16, 18, and exhaust pipe lines 24, 25. In series with the Bowden-operated main control valve 29 is the auxiliary control valve 31 having a follower 42 engaging a cam 35, Fig. 2, which, under elevation of the gun, slides in a bracket 36 which during training rotates round a vertical pivot 39 for the gun. Cam projections, corresponding to endangering positions of the gun,- cause the valve 31 to be moved against the action of a spring 32 to cut off the pressure supply to the gun firing motor 22 and permit of escape of the pressure fluid to the return line 24.
