Abstract

561,245. Hydraulic telemotor controls ; fluid-pressure servomotors. ARMANDIAS, L. S., and ASSOCIATED MESSIER INVESTMENTS, Ltd. Nov. 5, 1942, No. 15641. [Classes 69 (ii) and 135] In a hydraulic telemotor control system, such as is used for operating ships' rudders, the receiving member R is automatically returned to midposition when the transmitting member T is in mid-position by operating liquid supplied by a hydro-pneumatic accumulator 35, Fig. 1, or 121, Fig. 4. The operating wheel 27, Fig. 1, operates a rocking beam 15 and causes movements in opposite directions of pistons 7, 8 in cylinders 1, 2 connected by pipes 5, 6 to cylinders 3, 4 fitted with . pistons 9, 10 connected by rods 13, 14 to the rocking beam 16 of the receiver. When the beam 15 is returned to mid-position, cams 45, 46 on a shaft 29 geared to the wheel 27 operate spring- closed valves to connect a pipe 38 leading from the accumulator to the upper ends of the cylinders 1, 2 which are thus brought to the same pressure and also the pressures on the pistons 9, 10 are equalized causing the beam 16 to assume a horizontal position and restore 'the receiver to midposition. In a modification, the cylinders 1, 2 are made to move relatively to pistons which are extended to the base 21 and pivotally mounted thereon. The piston rods are formed with internal bores so as to connect the cylinders 1, 2 to the pipes 5, 6, and the receiver is constructed similarly. In a further modification, Fig. 4, which has also cylinders 67, 80 in the transmitter movable relatively to pistons 66, 79 with piston rods pivoted at 77, 88, and the receiver R is similarly constructed with cylinders 92, 93 movable to operate the receiving lever 118, the sides 97, 107 of the cylinders 92, 93 not connected to the cylinders of the transmitter are filled with liquid adapted to be put under pressure from an accumulator 135 kept charged by a pump 136. The supply of liquid to the chambers 97, 107 is controlled by the pressure of the operating liquid on spring pistons in chambers 184 connected by pipes 186, 187 to the pipes 119, 120 leading from-the cylinders of the transmitter T. At a given pressure one of the spring pistons is depressed, and a further valve is operated to connect the accumulator 135 to the required chamber 97, 107, and so the operation of the wheel 91 of the transmitter is assisted hydraulically. The hydro-accumulator 121 is connected to the cylinders 65, 78 by valves 126, 127 operated by a cam 128'connected to a lever arm 74 on the shaft of the transmitting device.
